A Very Happy Mother's Day

I love Mother’s Day. I love thinking about my Mother, thinking about my Mother-In-Law, and thinking about my own plans to be a Mother. I think Mother’s are the coolest people on earth. However, I don’t love going to church on Mother’s Day. I don’t love getting a flower because “you’ll be a mother someday” with a sympathetic, pathetic look in the flower giver’s eyes.
Before moving on to how wonderful and thoughtful and fun and cute my husband is for making my Mother's Day wonderful, I want to give a shout out to the Moms in my life.

My Mom is the captain of cool moms. She is very thoughtful and cute, and I love to spend time with her! When I was in middle school, I decided that my curly hair made me feel ugly and I wanted straight hair. My mom wanted me to feel good and happy (especially during those awkward early teenage years) so she came up with a great solution. Every night, she would wrap my hair around empty frozen grape juice cans! They were a bit hard to sleep in, but made my hair straight by the morning, and I loved it. After a while, we decided to try our hand at the blow dryer instead of the cans, so every night my mom would blow dry my hair. It was such a small thing, but it was so wonderful to spend all of that time with my mom, feeling special and pretty and loved.

My mom also used to surprise me by cleaning my room. Even when I was in high school, I would come home some days (usually during a really busy or stressful time) and my room would be spotless and organized. I am sure she was doing it as a mixture between being nice and spying on me (haha) but I always appreciated how she always knew when I needed my space and when I needed her help. She is amazing. When I need someone to listen to me complain, or solve a problem, or celebrate with me, I always call my mom. I love everything about this woman- she is an amazing artist and is funny and adventurous and caring and has the strongest testimony. She is wonderful Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. I love you!

I not only have the best mother, I have the best mother-in-law (and I am not only saying that because she reads my blog- it is true!). She is an amazing example to me of service and love. She is completely selfless and put up with Isaac, so that’s saying a lot! She is funny and warm and smart and a very hard worker- I can’t keep up with her! She is an amazing sewer and quilter and baker (she makes the best cinnamon rolls, and dinner rolls). She also gives Isaac great ideas on how to take care of me- just wait for the story below! Happy Mother’s Day, Mom-In-Law. I love you!

Isaac and I spent Saturday morning and afternoon cleaning up our construction zone and getting things ready for my parents to come on Friday (yay, yay, yay!!). Late that afternoon, Isaac made me take Dax and go sit outside. It was a bit cold, so I kept begging him to let me in, but instead he made me go on a walk to warm up (I am sure the neighbors were all wondering what was going on). About 30 minutes later, Isaac pulled up in front of the house, gave me these beautiful flowers:

and made me get in the car. He wouldn’t tell me where we were going- we drove for about 2 hours until we got to a little town near the Jersey shore. He had packed our bags, loaded up the car with a cooler full of food, and took me on a little get away! He didn’t want me to go to church on Sunday, since the past few months have not only been disappointing, but genuinely HARD. I didn't need a sympathy rose this year!

We spent the night at a Red Roof Inn- Dax loved the huge bed- and went to the beach for a few hours in the morning. It was freezing, but we had so much fun playing with Dax in the sand. I am so blessed. Thanks for the wonderful Mother’s Day, babe. You are my favorite. Guess I need to start planning our Father’s Day adventure, eh?

That really is cute. I don't even know Isaac, but I sure like him. :)

And I am glad your mom has the "strongest testimony". I thought you wrote "strangest testimony" and had to read it a few times to figure it out. ha.

Holy Moly!! Isaac gets 83 points!! That's awesome - such a fun fun trip.
I can totally relate - when we were having such a hard time getting a kiddo I hated hated church and mothers day and I totally wouldn't go either. You are totally going to have to top his surprise next month!

Does 83 points mean 83/100, cuz that's like a B-, normally I'd go back and grub for more points, but that's about my average grade so far in Grad school, so I'm OK with that.

Isaac, you really, truly, genuinely ROCK. I am so sorry for the hardness of the whole situation, and that was a sweet little rescue for Sara. Ditto to what Lorien says :)
