El Yunque is the only rain forest in the United States, so we headed there to spend a few hours hiking around and hoping to see a Puerto Rican parrot. We went on a really cool hike that ended at a freezing cold water fall. It was pretty much like a local swimming pool, there were so many local teenagers there. We both jumped in (ok, very slowly lowered ourselves in) and swam under the waterfall and in the fresh water for a few minutes before heading back out. We didn't see any wildlife at all, actually, but it was a fun hike.
We then headed for the west side of the Island to our next destination, Rincon. Compared to the resort paradise we had been at, Rincon Beach Resort left much to be desired. The beach at the hotel was better was better, but I am pretty sure there were 10 other people at the entire place. Nothing was open, the rooms were dingy, etc. Had we not stayed at the Gran Melia first, we would have thought it was great, but honestly, we were living the high life and were brought back to the medium life. They did have a hot tub, however, and we met some great people that gave us the lowdown on the snorkeling locals, so that made up for the gross floors.
