blessing day
On November 1st, Hazel was given a name and blessing in our church. It was another perfect day.
I had waited years for this. For the past seven years of our marriage, every time a baby was blessed I would silently pray, "when will it be our turn?". Before we decided to adopt, and our focus was shifted to the time we'd be sealed to our children, this was the event I was waiting for.
We decided to bless Hazel back in Philly, even though it meant that none of our family would be able to share the day with us. Instead, we invited all of Isaac's friends from work and my former co-workers. And most especially, our ward family was there. We have been through so much with our friends, they have celebrated and mourned with us, taken care of us, and supported us through it all. We were thrilled to be able to share this wonderful day with them.
Isaac took Hazel up on the stand and a few seconds later motioned for me to come up. Because Hazel is a wee bit bigger than the typical newborn, it was decided that I would hold her on my lap. It was so amazing to be holding my baby as her dad gave her this blessing. It was so beautiful, and I cannot wait to share some of the things that were said with Hazel some day.
So, she's been delivered, signed, sealed, and blessed. Doesn't flow quite as well as the song, but it feels like perfection to us.

Shut it, that picture is so cute. It was a beautiful blessing and I'm SO glad you did it here in Philly.
I have been following your blog for over a year.
I had to chime in and let you know what an inspiration you've been to me, even in my darkest hours. You've given me so much hope! Thank you for sharing your story, publicly.

I know how special it is to have your baby blessed :)
I am so excited for Lily to be adopted, blessed and sealed so soon!!!!
Congrats on your Hazel baby!
I may ask Vince if I could/should hold Lily on my lap during the blessing. She's almost 17 mo old!
Darling picture! My sister and I are adopted and she wanted to bless her daughter in her same dress. Yeah, dresses for year-old babies don't fit as dresses for newborns (o:
