hazel my basil

Our sweet Hazel turns three in a few weeks. THREE! How on earth did that happen?

But for now she's still my little two year old, and a few (ok, many) things about this wee one that I never want to forget....

She loves to read books all by herself, help in the kitchen, make her own food, brush her own teeth, wear big bows in her hair, make up rhymes, do 'art projects', have tea parties with 'hot chocolate milk', and 'get all cozy' under lots of blankets.

Every time she goes in her room for her nap/quiet time, she adds many layers of clothes including 'fresh undies'. It has usually just been pants and skirts layered over each other, but she's figured out shirts in the past few days too.

She is so grateful for everything! Any time you give her a toy or food or a blanket or anything, she just gushes, 'oh thank you! thank you!'

She says really long and really sweet prayers. If you tell her to pray from her heart, she always begins with, "Heavenly Father, please help me!"

She has the cutest shaky, emotional voice that comes out when she is telling a sad story.

Her favorite foods include peanut butter, hummus, bananas, strawberries, lunch meat, yogurt, 'tuna sammies' and spaghetti. She still won't touch apple sauce.

Her favorite songs are I Love to See the Temple, Book of Mormon Stories and Rudolph.

She loves listening to 'Sesame Street Fairy Tales' (I had the record when I was a kid) on her CD player, over and over again.

She talks non-stop, all day long. We get a play by play of every move she makes: "I'll be right back. I'm going up stairs to get my animal. I'll be right back. I'll get my animal and come right back and play with my animal downstairs-es...." etc.

She loves to tell stories, especially 'Once upon a time there was a princess named Hazel. She lived in a pink castle. She didn't feel good..."

Me: "That's Charlie Brown."
Haze: "He has a crack in his head!"

"Stop talking, mom and dad!"

"Sometimes babies do that"- when she's doing something naughty

"Babies don't listen to their mommies"- again, when doing something naughty

"I'm in charge!.... What does in charge mean?"

loves taking her purse on errands
"Please I watch one show? Please I have one snack? Please I have some popcorn?"

While painting together, me: "What's that a picture of?"
Hazel: "I don't know! I'm still painting it!"

"I meant to be a pite" (from a song, I meant to be polite)

"Look at my serious face! I'm being serious!" (wonder where she got that from....)

"Hey mom..."- before just about everything she says

"My daddy's not big anymore. He doesn't have a round tummy."

"I'm getting bigger! To be a grown up and use knives!"

Loves to tell her two jokes (both courtesy of her dad):
Knock knock
Who is there?
Zombie
Zombie who?
I'm going to eat your brains!

Hey, guess what mom?
What?
Chicken butt!

Wiped her nose with her finger & said, "little bit juicy, I need to get some toilet paper"

When she gets hurt, she always says through her tears, "Daddy will be so worried!"

In her room at nap time she was singing 'just a dance party!' over and over again.

we were at the grocery store and Spice Girls 'Wannabe' song came on, and hazel exclaimed, "pice girls!! we have this song!"

We were looking at a picture of Hazel and my mom. I said, "Are you hugging grandma?"
Hazel: "Yes, I love her neck."

Hazel: You see that shooting star?
Me: that's not a star, it's a bird.
Haze: oh, he has a light on his bum!

She was telling a story and messed up while saying the word 'buoy'
She then laughed and said, "Haha sorry, my name is Hazel and I'm just learning to talk."

Yelling for me during her 'nap'..(not a sad yell, a happy excited yell) "mommy, mommy, mommy!"
me: "Get back in bed Hazel."
Hazel: "Ok! Mommy! I'm just being way quiet! I'm not putting my head down!"

wanted me to take a picture of the outfit she picked out. her sticker reward charts are behind her

While holding a picture of Jesus up to the window: "Jesus, look, daddy cleaned up the garden and look a swimming pool. (Makes a deep voice like Jesus): Oh, your daddy cleaned up the garden?

Haze: "My other mother says we don't color on buckets."
Me: "Who is your other mother?"
Haze: "Daddy"

In her bedroom instead of napping, starts exclaiming "When I get my April birthday I will get a bike! And a helmet! I will wear my helmet so I can be safe! I will get a princess helmet for my April birthday!"

"I went a little fish poopy!"

Whenever she picks up a cup, she asks, "Is this good or old?"

during 'nap time' she kept yelling she had a surprise for me. i finally gave in and went into her room to find her all layered up and with bunny ears on. surprise!

More 'nap time' funniness: "I want my fan on. I want my fan on. I want my fan on. I want my fan on. Tickle tickle tickle tickle!"

While Isaac was on a trip- Me: "I wish dad was here."
Haze: (rubbing my head) "Oh, don't worry mommy. You'll see him again. After all, he can take off and land. My daddy is on an airplane, don't worry mommy, you will see him next week."

I had just put Hazel to bed, and was in my room and coughed (I wasn't sick, it was just a single cough). She yelled out, "I hope you feel better, mom!"

Whenever we are playing together, she starts out her instructions with "whatever you do..."

'candy cans'- candy canes
'brinman house'- gingerbread house
'swidgewitch' (our favorite word of hers, we try to get her to say it multiple times a day)- sandwich
'lootbeer'- rootbeer
'down hog'- groundhog
'medius'- medium
'downstairs-es'- downstairs

This little girl is the light of our lives!
