happy birthday!

Well, happy birthday to me!

I had a great birthday week of eating out, surprise treats, and Hazel singing to me every day. The best part of the week was when my parents arrived! After months of begging and pleading, they finally gave in and came to celebrate my birthday with us.

We went out for delicious and expensive ice cream the night before my birthday.

The morning of my birthday, I awoke to the sweet smell of breakfast cake (a birthday tradition from my childhood). I haven't had my mom cook me breakfast cake in so many years, it was the highlight of my day!

The space shuttle Endeavour was scheduled to do a fly over our area that morning. We debated for a while over where to get the best view, and finally decided on heading up to the temple. It was pretty cool,  but had we stayed home, we could have seen it even closer.

My parents, Hazel, and I did some birthday clothes shopping (Hazel was the big benefactor from that trip) and then we all went out for dinner that night.

The next day my mom and I went out to garage sales. After finding nothing, we decided to go to two more and then call it quits. As we were walking up to the second-to-last sale, my mom tripped on the uneven sidewalk and fell hard. She hit her head and was in so much pain, and there was blood streaming down her face. Instead of fainting, I acted like a super hero and took off my jacket and pressed it into the bloody wound (not sure if that is what I should have done, but I couldn't look at the blood anymore!). After a few minutes she felt she could stand up and a nice man helped get her into the car. We went to the ER where they got her in right away. I held it together really good until Isaac showed up, and then I sobbed for a good few minutes. Phew, that was emotional and scary!

They did a head CT on my mom, and I got to watch the scan and see her brain, which was pretty cool. They glued up her head wound, gave her a splint for her broken wrist, and some pain meds for all the pain. She also chipped off half of her front tooth, got a big black and blue bruise on her cheek, banged up her knee, possibly cracked some ribs, and had big swollen lips. Poor mom!!

We scrapped the plans for the rest of their visit and instead stayed home and enjoyed eachothers company. If my mom hadn't been in so much pain, it would have been lovely.

Cool phone - I saw one of those advertised in a magazine recently...do you like it?
