Last Sunday, a few of the YM told me I had to come to their weekly activity on Wednesday because they had something special planned. They wouldn't tell Isaac or me what it was, but they were very excited about it! Yesterday afternoon they left a message on Isaac’s phone, reminding him to make sure I came.
We showed up at the church and two of the guys were blocking the doors to make sure that we didn’t enter until they told us we could. Then they made us close our eyes and they led us into a room to find:

They had planned, all by themselves, a dinner date for us! The dinner came from “Youth’s Kitchen” aka Boston Market, they had “romantic music” playing in the background (it was the CD from EFY- these kids kill me!!!) and a cute card was sitting on the table.

A few minutes into the meal Jerome came back into the room and very seriously said, “The chef sends his apologies for forgetting your water” and in came Cheeko and Kilief with our glasses. They checked on us a couple more times just to make sure everything was okay, and then they brought us our “big” present which was a poster board-sized card that they had made and decorated.
I can’t get over how adorable these kids are, how appreciative of the trip to Utah they are, and how much we love them! I think back to the day that Isaac got his call to serve in YMs and how close I was to leaving the church (ok, at least selling our house and moving to the ‘burbs). While I still get nervous about the areas he has to drive around in, and sometimes am a little too possessive of our time together, there kids are totally worth it all.

What awesome little folks!! They seem like great youth & like they love you 2 so much. Ty's in YM too & though it gets tiring sometimes when they drop by unannounced & wake Porter up, it makes me happy that they like him so much & feel comfortable coming here anytime.
Good work.
Too cute. I'm so glad they did something nice and thoughtful for you guys!
ok, that made me bawl! how sweet - really, who does that? and although they are not your "own," you are still mothering them more than your probably realize!
That is so awesome! You two must be doing something right for those kids to be so great!
How sweet! Makes me hungry just looking at it!
Love you!
That is so amazing! What great kids! But, you two really do deserve it. Both of you are amazing with these kids and they are so lucky to have you!
We miss seeing you guys! You are making such a difference in these kidos life. Even though yours are still on there way, look at how amazing you are to so many people!! You are in our prayers!
That is so sweet.
ha, that totally made me smile. how adorable!
Love those boys. Every so often here in Utah I will see a cute teenager of darker skin (black if that's politically correct now) and I will smile to myself in memory of your sweet boys. I wish I could see them again and spend hours with them listening to their struggles and their triumphs. Will you do that for me? It is such an amazing time in your lives that you have to give to these sweet kids, ym and yw!
Way to go both of you! Great teamwork as well, and obviously!
